Trust and betrayal.

It seems now the time is here
That many a friendships end is near.

Going on the separate ways
No caring to look back on those days

When once they shared a path in life
With a person for whom they still hold the knife.

The one they wedged inside their back
And helped their trust come down with a crash.

So that now they are accustomed to betrayed trust
And watch as their hearts are cased in metal and rust.

Never more to allow that feeling to enter in
And let the walls around their heart grow to thin.

Rather they take this betrayal to heart and mind
So safety in seclusion they may find.

But those friends will continue on without a word,
And the ones whom lose that trust will never again be heard.

“They come and go” they tell themselves but don’t believe
As they try to understand but can’t conceive.

“I suppose that’s just how things go” they so to rationalize
These thoughts within as the metal begins to materialize.

“Let the darkness fill this heart,
and metal, rust, and chains take its place
For the trickery played on me from the start
Allows me at last, the truth to face”.

Thus begins the life of seclusion of the betrayed
Whose hearts and minds are all but frayed.
